IMPRESS: The Independent Monitor for the Press CIC is the first truly independent regulator of the press in the United Kingdom. We exist to promote the freedom of the press and to encourage high standards in news reporting.
As part of this commitment, IMPRESS is developing a new Code of Conduct that sets out the standards required of IMPRESS representatives.
The Code of Conduct consists of three parts:
- Part A covers the implementation of the Code of Conduct;
- Part B is the Nolan principles of public life; and,
- Part C talks about issues such as conflicts of interest and gifts and hospitality. It includes an Annex with a suggested approach to assessing when it may be appropriate for certain IMPRESS representatives to recuse themselves from decisions.
The IMPRESS Code of Conduct is currently in draft form. After consultation a final version will be published. The Code of Conduct will be regularly reviewed.
